Working Hard or Hardly Working?

Being able to help advocate for Dhon and his new team has been a huge blessing. It has helped him transition well and allowed the staff to get to know how Dhon operates, his preferences, and who he is.

It took a while for me to adjust to his schedule at Madonna and I get exhausted by the end of the day as well. But I know that if Dhon can wake up and put in his resilient effort each day then I can at least try to do the same.

The family knew that being at Madonna would be more work but I guess we weren’t expecting this much. It is good overall but sometimes it is hard to catch your breath in the middle of the day. Explaining Dhon’s story to new staff every day, attending all his rehab appointments, feeding him, helping the staff with his cares etc. The alternative is to let the staff do all the work, but the family knows that wouldn’t be the best for Dhon. So we put in the extra effort. Please keep praying for energy and rest for the family.

Watching Dhon tackle some new challenges has been great, proud big-brother moments happen every day. The other day, Dhon was on a modified hack squat machine and was cranking out reps on his own. It was just amazing. He’ll be at the Ronnie Coleman level in no time ;).

It has also been inspiring and discouraging at the same time seeing all the other patients. On one side the amount of work they put in just to do many of the daily tasks we take for granted is beyond words. It is also hopeful to know that Dhon can be at their level someday too.

On the other hand, Dhon has a long way to go. Dhon is the “lowest functioning” patient in this entire facility. It breaks my heart how much work he is going to have to put in over the years. But at the end of the day, I know God is working his miracles everyday showing us the Kingdom by healing Dhon everyday even if it is just 1% better.

Continue to pray for Dhon, and this staff, and pray for yourselves as you have been faithful supporters in Dhon’s journey!
